This past week has been a busy one... just yesterday, at Frye's Landing, we caught and banded 70 birds. Most of these were warblers- 41 were in just one net! It's always a shock to walk up to a net and see it so full. Our other banding sites have also had a slight increase in the number of birds. Volunteers have been very helpful, and we've been getting more visitors, especially over Labor Day weekend. Thank you to those who have been showing an interest in the banding!
Common warbler species we've been catching include Magnolia Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and Nashville Warblers. Take a look at the list below to see all the species we've caught (new since the last post).
As for our new net lane at Erie Bluffs, we did end up catching birds in it. Granted, we only caught 2 birds in it the first day it was up, but that was out of 7 total birds that day.
Here are the new species we banded:
Erie Bluffs: Cedar Waxwing, American Goldfinch, Gray Catbird, Downy Woodpecker, Nashville Warbler, Ovenbird, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Magnolia Warbler, Black-capped Chickadee, Black-throated Blue Warbler, and Red-eyed Vireo.
Frye's Landing: Blackburnian Warbler, Ovenbird, Hooded Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-capped Chickadee, Bay-breasted Warbler, Swainson's Thrush, White-breasted Nuthatch, Nashville Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and Black-and-white Warbler.
Niagara: Wilson's Warbler, Song Sparrow, Warbling Vireo, Black-and-white Warbler, Least Flycatcher, Common Yellowthroat, Black-capped Chickadee, and Veery.
